the jam into drums is really interesting and worth listening to. You have to wonder if Jerry just got so excited to play Brokedown the night before that he busted it out mid-set. The only other time it wasn't the walk-off from this point forward, was at a new year's show where it ended the second set...kind of the same thing.

Agreed that a great AUD recording like this one offers more ambiance and depth than a sbd can. Though not ripping or a standout, this show has great moments and is overall very cool.

Subject: Starting To Love Audience Recordings
When they are as well recorded as this. There is an awesome expansive breathiness to this show which one can only describe as being there. You get the true nature of the vocals as they sounded down on the floor and whereas they may not be as loud as on a soundboard recording they are more accurate in timbre.

I often complain about the way Phil's bass sounded in late 1979, but perhaps it is a result of what I call "the soundboard factor." Sometimes the person behind the soundboard can alter the signal that you may not have otherwise heard had you been there. Well, I was at this show and this is a much more well-represented sound than the soundboard although the bass may be a tad bit boomy. I think perhaps the boominess must have been due to the hall itself and whoever mixed the front of house during those fledgling days of the Oakland Auditorium took an inordinate number of days to finally adjust to and capture it.

Not the greatest performance ever but it was good enough and along with this resplendent recording this show warrants a 5.
